Did you know that 9th February is National toothache day? No? Neither did we!
The best way to prevent toothache is to keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible, by:
Having regular dental check-ups
Cutting down on sugary foods and drinks by only having them as an occasional treat
Brushing your teeth twice a day for about 2 minutes with a fluoride toothpaste
Cleaning between your teeth using floss or an interdental brush every day
If you do not have a dentist or cannot get an emergency appointment:
call 111 or visit 111 online – they can advise you what to do
find a dentist near you – ask if you can have an emergency appointment
Dentaid The Dental Charity provides dental care and oral health advice for people experiencing homelessness, abuse, poverty and harm.
Mobile dental units travel the UK providing outreach dental clinics for the most vulnerable people in our communities.
They help people at risk of health inequalities who’ve been living with the misery of toothache and restore their self-esteem by giving them more confidence in their smile.

BrightBites is a fun and engaging oral health education programme for school-aged children that can be delivered both in the UK and overseas.
Volunteers visit schools, nurseries, after-school clubs, community groups and childcare organisations with a particular focus on communities where children are at risk of social exclusion. They deliver a lively, interactive presentation that covers toothbrushing, teeth names and functions, sugar awareness and the importance of regular dental appointments.
The BrightBites programme is generously supported by Denplan, which is part of Simply Health, at a time when tooth decay remains the most common reason for hospital admissions in children aged 6-10.
