Who thought such little bins could do so much!

Residents across Test Valley have wholeheartedly embraced the borough’s new weekly food waste collection service, recycling an amazing 420 tonnes in just five weeks — who knew those little bins could do so much?

Since launching in October, the scheme has smashed expectations and is already making a real difference. By popping their peelings, leftovers and scraps into the food caddy, residents are cutting down the amount of household waste heading to the county’s energy-from-waste sites.

All that collected food waste is whisked off to a local anaerobic digestion facility, where it’s magically transformed into renewable energy and nutrient-packed fertiliser.

And just to picture it — 420 tonnes is about the same weight as one million footballs!
