There’s something special about summer. Longer days, warmer weather and gardens bursting with life make it the perfect time to get outdoors and reconnect with the food we eat. If you've ever thought about growing your own fruit and vegetables, now could be the ideal moment to take the first step.

At the Andover Food Partnership, we are passionate about creating a local food system that is healthy, sustainable and accessible for everyone. Growing your own food is a fantastic way to support these values while enjoying the many benefits that come from spending time outdoors and nurturing something from seed to harvest.

Why Choose an Allotment?

Allotments offer much more than a space to grow vegetables. They provide opportunities to:

  • Grow fresh, healthy and affordable food close to home.

  • Reduce food miles and environmental impact.

  • Learn new skills and share knowledge with others.

  • Improve physical and mental well being through gardening.

  • Connect with your local community.

  • Encourage children and families to learn where food comes from.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced gardener looking for more growing space, an allotment can be a rewarding and productive hobby.

Allotments Across Andover

Did you know that Andover Town Council manages nine allotment sites across the town, giving residents plenty of opportunities to find a plot near them? The sites are located at:

  • Admirals Way

  • Barlows Lane

  • Churchill Way

  • Mylen Road

  • Old Winton Road

  • Ox Drove

  • Saxon Heights

  • The Drove

  • Vigo Road

These sites are spread across Andover, helping make local food growing accessible to communities throughout the town. If you want to find more information about where these allotments are then click this link: Allotment Locations | Andover Town Council

Supporting a More Sustainable Food Future

The Andover Food Partnership works to promote healthier, fairer and more sustainable food choices across our community. Local food growing plays an important role in this vision.

When more people grow their own food, we strengthen local food resilience, reduce waste, encourage biodiversity and help create a culture that values fresh, seasonal produce. Even a small allotment plot can produce an impressive amount of fruit, vegetables and herbs throughout the year.

Growing your own food also helps build a stronger connection to the seasons and a greater appreciation for the work involved in producing the food on our plates.

Get Started Today

With summer in full swing, there is still plenty of time to plant, grow and enjoy your own harvest. From salad leaves and beans to courgettes, beetroot and herbs, many crops can still be grown successfully during the warmer months.

If you're looking for a space to grow fresh food, meet like-minded people and make a positive contribution to a more sustainable local food system, an allotment could be exactly what you're looking for.
