Christmas dinner savings in Andover

Many of the supermarkets heavily discount vegetables at around mid-December but many will know this already, so be organised and go with a list!

It is not all doom and gloom here in Andover, local residents can access two community pantries. With one being in Bridge Street in the centre of Andover and the other in Longmeadow Centre, Cricketers Way, residents across the town can easily access one.


Both pantries offer food at much lower costs than would be in supermarkets, but each run in a completely different way, offering residents a choice in the way they shop.



GCS Longmeadow Centre pantry, has been open for 4 years and continues to grow.

Members benefit from a range of products including frozen and fresh food and pay £5 per visit.

Open on:

Monday – 09.30am to 12pm

Tuesday – 09.30am to 12pm

Wednesday – 4pm to 6pm

Friday – 09.30am to 12pm

GCS also offers numerous adult learning courses for those aged 19 and over, one such course is the Mindfulness course due to start in January 2025, where participants will learn how to be aware of their feelings and emotions, focussing on a positive attitude, stress reduction & stress management. ACE pantry in the centre of town, has been open since Summer 2024 though ACE has been offering their services from various locations in Andover before they found their long term venue in Bridge Street. At ACE, members pay £10 per month and can shop up to 4 times in that month, which equates to £2.50 per week.


The Community Lounge is a warm comfortable area based inside the ACE building. There are sofas, tables, reading nooks, areas to sit on your own and areas to sit with others. It's supported by ACE community fridge and as such there will always be tea and coffee available which you can help yourself to. There will be an assortment of community groups meeting in the lounge but there will always be space available for people to sit that are not joining in with the group activity. With Books, newspapers, games, puzzles and crafts...there'll always be something to do. Sit and chat with someone or everyone. ACE Lounge has free wifi, so pop in if you are looking for somewhere warm to relax over the holidays.
